There are a couple of insects available as food here in New Zealand, and an indigenous tradition of eating some insects too. Mostly they are prohibitively expensive novelties at this stage, but I imagine the price may come down. I've tried a few types of insect, mostly heavily disguised admittedly.
Great point about price! I agree with you that I think prices will come down as more products hit the market. I was interviewing Danish scientists a few years ago and they were experimenting with insect flour quite successfully for breads so I think there's real potential there, particularly to overcome the ick factor.
