I don’t understand why the seeds were redeposited? Is it because Syria had lost their gene bank and consequently their seeds too so they have return back the seeds they had borrowed from ICARD?

Thanks for the question and sorry if I didn't make it clear. So the Svalbard seed bank works as a back-up to the world's seed banks.

ICARDA had previously deposited seeds from the Aleppo seed bank so when war destroyed this seed bank, ICARDA was able to use the seeds from Svalbard to re-grow some of the crops.

They deposited the seeds to Svalbard again so that the next time a disaster strikes, they can get the back-up seeds again. I hope that makes it clearer?
